Группа Newsboys была организована в 1985 году в Австралии Питером Фарлером, Джоном Джеймсом, Шоном Тейлором и Джорджем Пардикисом. Изначально группа называлась The News, в честь Good News (Евангелия), но, после того, как команда приехала в Америку, название было изменено на Newsboys, дабы избежать конфликта с одноимённо американской группой.
С самого начала группа несла в своих песнях благую весть, и неспроста, ведь автор песен Питер Эндрю Фарлер вырос в семье Билла Фарлера — пастора церкви «Ассамблеи Бога».
